See thousands of Buddha statues lined up, then visit Wat Phra Keo, which is a religious museum that displays a collection of art representing Lao and Khmer artifacts. Continue with a visit to Wat Si Muang before visiting Patouxay monument, Laos' version of the Arcde Triomphe. End the day at That Luang, regarded to as the holiest site in Laos. This gold-like building was constructed in the 16th century.

Visit to the weaving home-studio of Mrs. Carol Cassidy, an American textiles expert who arrived in Vientiane in 1989 as part of a United Nations project to promote traditional weaving. Carol will personally escort you on a tour through her studio where she will explain the process of producing silk as well as sharing her life experiences and memories of living in Laos.

Pay a visit to the contemporary Villa Cythere gallery which is located in the former home of well-known French painter Marc Leguay. These days, the gallery exhibits work from many Lao artists in a number of different styles. Get to know more about the artists and their backgrounds by chatting with the director of the gallery who will be on-hand during your visit.

The recently opened Chez Philippe has rapidly become one of the best restaurants in Vientiane. The restaurant is opposite Kob Chai deu, on the top floor of the Phimphone mini Mart. While not cheap, the quality of the ingredients and the cooking is excellent. Try the tuna if it is on the menu; also the steaks, particularly the rib eye for two people are very tasty. Chez Philippe also has an extensive and well-chosen wine list.

Sole restaurant in Vientiane that has been authorized as a tax exemption and provides Lao developed food prepared by Lao cooking specialist, teachers and students. Very cozy decoration with a small shop upstairs called Noi-Noiselling recycled stuff. Customer shouldn’t miss the Tofu, Banana Blossom and Chili Larb, or the Mango and Black Sticky Rice dessert! The food on offer is un-fussy yet captures the essence of Lao cooking with the use of aromas, herbs and spices. Presentation is colorful and uncluttered. Dishes are made to order, so expect a little waiting time. Service is pleasant, and don’t be put off by the sight of three or four of them around your table listening to the Teacher explain things, after all, it is a Training Restaurant. The income of the restaurant will be used for helping street children.
